8th International Degrowth Conference – Caring Communities for Radical Change
Roundtable: Decolonial Feminism and its transformative possibilities
by Women on The Verge Collective, Europe
This is a roundtable with members of the collective Women on the Verge. We will explore decolonial feminisms proposals that propose that the transcendence of racial colonial capitalism is not enough to create spaces for radical caring alternatives that affirm human and non-human life in the planet. By bringing a plurality of (decolonial) feminist perspectives from our engaged and participatory research with women’s and indigenous movements in urban and rural settings, the panel will discuss what are the patterns of social reproduction underlying racial colonial capitalism and what are the strategies and gestures to “denaturalise” capitalist society through prefiguration and undoing coloniality. By discussing the learning opportunities that emerge from prefigurative social movements and re-constitutive and re-existence practices, the panel will reflect on what are the challenges faced by struggles for change that aim to move beyond the colonial patriarchal capitalist reality and reinvent meaning of feminism in the context of pluriversality, radical alternatives and degrowth.
